Learn the model that helps when the controls change.
Instructions can show a route through a tool. A model helps you understand why the route works and what to examine when your own situation differs.
Both can be valuable. The learning purpose determines the balance.
With a software or AI tool, the deeper questions may concern what the tool represents, what it assumes, which result it establishes, and how that result fits the surrounding system.
A session can make those relationships explicit through an applied example. The learner can then recognize a pattern instead of memorizing a sequence without context.

His first international tour's “Learning about Tools” theme was one part of a larger view: tools are also ways to explore a subject, and adaptable software can open further possibilities.
